STEAMhive II Within STEAMhive II, Howest provides support to organizations that organize extracurricular STEM activities through Mind-and-Makerspace (MAM) and Industrial Design Center (IDC). The project team aims to inspire and facilitate through various activities. ZorgSTEM The D4E1 Lab (Design for Everyone) within the Industrial Design Center (IDC) is one of the pioneers in human-centered and participatory healthcare innovation in Flanders, with successful projects like Makerhealth and Makeability. TEENIE TINY HOUSES From conversations with partners in the construction sector, it became evident that there is untapped potential for integrating STEM into the construction industry. SD GUERILLARTS A group of young people aged 14 and above will collaborate on spotlighting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through an artistic-technological intervention in their city/town. A program will be established in collaboration with local youth organizations. STEAMHIVE III Howest, through STEAMhive, plays a pivotal role in the field of STEM in leisure activities. Within STEAMhive III, Howest provides support to organisations aiming to establish extracurricular STEM activities from the Mind- and Makerspace and The Enterprise. EXERGAME Howest and Sport Flanders have developed expertise in the niche field of 'exergames' or 'interactive movement games' through the Sports Innovation Campus. Through this collaboration, we are establishing a space for research, education, and services on this theme. From Howest, our Urban meiden Research indicates that socially active sports practices are empowering and contribute to a positive perception of young people in disadvantaged neighborhoods. REMOTE COACHING In this project, we are exploring the possibility of developing a virtual movement platform where movements are felt 'real' in real-time. There is a high dropout rate when individuals are asked to follow an exercise program alone or remotely after an initial start with a coach. VITAL CITIES II More and more people are convinced of the importance of living in an environment that offers ample opportunities for physical activity. The COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to this, as many people rediscovered their own neighborhoods during lockdowns. YET The research group Vital Cities, in collaboration with the researchers from Howest's Sizing Servers Lab (MCT), will develop a mobile tool that can be used as a participation tool, research instrument, and educational tool.
