General Programme Job opportunities The European Master in Sustainable Energy System Management (SESyM) is an initiative of EUREC (Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres) in collaboration with a consortium of higher education institutions, notably the Hanzehogeschool Groningen (NL), Howest University of Applied Sciences (BE), the University of Zaragoza (SP), Limerick Institute of Technology (IE) and the University of Pisa (IT). EUREC has a major voice in Europe regarding research into sustainable energy and the provision of advice regarding topical energy issues. In the scope of that assignment, the European Master SESyM is offered to train people to play an active role in the field of energy transition. This has indeed become a transdisciplinary matter in which technological, economic, legal, social and environmental challenges are the central issues. In this professional master's programme, students are trained to design, assess and implement an innovative energy business plan. In realistic and authentic company case-studies and projects, they address sustainable energy challenges based on a system approach. The fact that this is a European master's programme implies that the student must have studied in at least 2 European countries in the course of this study track. Why SESyM? Why Howest? Three semesters in two years The programme consists of 3 semesters (core – specialisation (choice) – thesis) of each 30 study credits. The study programme in all counts 90 study credits and is open to students, holder of a (professional) bachelor diploma from the following study fields: Business Management and Economics (e.g. Company Management, Network Economics, …) Natural Sciences Engineering Sciences, Social Sciences, Political Sciences Architecture Admission is subject to a motivation file (cv, motivation letter, reference letter of employer/higher education institution), …) and a certificate attesting to sufficient proficiency of the English language (IELTS 6.5 or similar). Tailor-made The core semester (Sept. – Jan.) includes the basis of economic and business concepts necessary to design and implement innovative energy projects, as well as the legal frameworks and technical aspects of the energy business. This semester is offered in Groningen (Hanzehogeschool) and Ireland (Limerick Institute of Technology). During the second semester (specialization), the student can choose between Zaragoza, Kortrijk (Howest) or Groningen, each proposing a specific theme. In this context, Howest offers the ‘Sustainable Energy & ICT’ semester. The thesis semester can be taken either in a company or in a research institution in Europe. Thanks to this offer, each student can compose his/her study line according to his/her talent and interests. The aim of the European Master in Sustainable Energy System Management is to provide postgraduate students with the skills required for employment in the Sustainable Energy industry. Students will specialise in business case analysis, modelling,project design and implementation. As a result of the foreign contact the course requires, students will have the international outlook essential to the industry HR needs.
