In the R3Pack project, we are exploring how to build an ecosystem in West Flanders for demonstrating solutions related to the design and recycling of non-household packaging.

Concrete actions include:

  1. Developing infrastructure for design in the Circular Solution Lab at Howest.
  2. Establishing a pilot line for advanced washing processes for high-quality recycling at UGent.
  3. Further developing characterization and processing infrastructure for new product designs at Centexbel and Howest.

Additionally, in R3Pack, we are working on at least 4 to 5 case studies. In these studies, we aim to investigate and demonstrate solutions to West Flemish companies, showing that the Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation can be an opportunity rather than a threat. These cases cover the entire cycle of design for reuse and recycling, including associated new business models. For example, developing personalized sustainable packaging that is more valuable and reused, and advancing recycling techniques to incorporate recycled content into high-quality non-household packaging applications.
