The Healthy Howest project aims to develop a health policy for Howest students and staff. A policy plan is being devised to promote physical, mental, and social well-being among both staff and students. The underlying methodology is based on the 7-step plan of the Flemish Institute for Healthy Living. The policy plan is further detailed into various theme-based action plans, which are implemented and evaluated annually. Work is carried out in various lifestyle domains such as healthy eating and physical activity, sedentary behaviour, alcohol and drugs, smoking, addictions (including gaming and gambling), sleep, stress, mental well-being, and more.Howest intends to take on a leading role as an employer with a focus on health and aims to convey this commitment to the workforce and partners. Additionally, a service package is being developed, along with a learning network to share best practices with the wider community.
