In this course students will learn about the impact on social transformation and cultural identity when vulnerable people move from one geographical location to another, circumstances in which human rights may be violated and sources of support and protection.

The world is changing fast and so is the way we communicate. We now live in a digital world and digital natives are increasingly the main target group. If you want to stand out, creativity is key.

As a journalist, you look at society with an open view and a critical eye. You are a curious go-getter, keep on telling your audience what is really going on in the world. You are the extra pair of eyes and ears for your listeners, viewers or readers.

The English-taught semester on migration and refugees takes place in autumn as a block course with a wide range of modules. The modules include lectures, field trips, group works, testimonies of experts from the field and contact with people displaced due to conflict, war and persecution.

The English-taught semester in the teacher training department is meant for students in education departments with a bachelor’s or master’s degree. At Howest, we train teachers to teach in nursery schools, primary schools and the lower years of secondary schools (from 2,5 to 16-year olds).
