As a student or staff member, you are automatically a member of the Media Hub. You can borrow materials free of charge upon presentation of your valid student or staff card.Are you an external student? Then you can only consult materials on-site, not borrow them.Note: Ghent University students and lecturers can use the Media Hub under the same terms and conditions as Howesters.Alumni can continue to borrow materials for up to one year after graduation.Loaned materials are for personal use and will not be lent to others. Find your book among the shelves Found a book in our online catalog? Here's how to find it in our library:Click on the title in the catalog.Under "Signature," look for the shelf number (e.g., PENTA.612.74 CORN 18).Go to the correct Media Hub and find the shelf that matches the first digit of the number (e.g., 612.74).Search that shelf for the rest of the shelf number (e.g., CORN 18). Books are listed alphabetically.Take the book to the counter to have it scanned.Is a book listed as available online but you can't find it on the shelf? Just ask a Media Hub staff member. Borrowing audiovisual material Everything about borrowing audiovisual material can be found here. RenewingYou can renew loaned works yourself. This must be done before the expiration date. How do you extend your material yourself?Log in with your Howest credentials to our online catalog.Click ‘My account’ at the top right corner.Click ‘Checkouts’.Select the material you wish to renew and click on 'Renew items'.Your material will be automatically extended for the assigned renewal period. This prevents the borrower from renewing the materials.How to reserve materialsGo to the relevant material in our online catalog (make sure you're logged in with your Howest login details).If the material is on loan, you'll see a blue "Reserve" button on the right.Click the button and select your preferred pickup location.Click "Send."You'll receive a confirmation email and another email when your reserved material has been returned by the lender.Note: You cannot reserve materials that are currently available. Returning When to return With every loan, you'll receive a bookmark with your due date written on it.You'll also receive an automatic email with the due date both upon loan and a few days before.You can return items before or on the due date. How to return You can return materials during opening hours at the front desk or, outside opening hours, via our drop boxes near the entrance doors to the Media Hubs.Please note: only books or thin boxes will fit in these boxes. Dolls or large game boxes can only be returned at the front desk. Reminders Borrowers are notified when their materials are due or when they are overdue. You are responsible for the damages, except in cases of force majeure or third-party negligence. Please report this to a staff member at the counter or by email. Interlibrary loan (IBL) Need something that's not in our collection? You can request a magazine, article, or book from another library. This can be done either from the other Howest Media Hub or from the library of another university or college.
