As a Howest student, you will need a laptop. Thanks to the laptop project, you can get great value for money when purchasing a new device.
Student Software and books
All software for your study programme (and much more) can be found via academicsoftware.eu
The software package required for your study programme is included in the extra study costs. Since the software licenses are valid for one year, the package is only activated at the start of the academic year.
Other programme-specific software can be purchased at a student-friendly price.
Books can be purchased through Standaard Boekhandel at student rates. This can be done during the kick-off week on campus or online with your Howest login (more info upon final registration)
The transition from secondary to higher education is not always evident. In order to make this transition easier, we offer a series of entry-level courses that prepare you for your professional degree or graduate studies.
During the kick-off week, you will receive information about your schedule, the academic and exam regulations, student services, your Howest email account, etc. You will also meet your new classmates, explore the Howest campus and learn about all that Stuvo (student services) has to offer. You will have the opportunity to purchase your books and we will make a number of practical arrangements to get the year off to a good start.
Did you miss the kick-off week?
You can find the information of the past kick-off week (orientation week) on the learning platform Leho. How to log on to this platform you can find in “Frequently asked ICT questions”.
Students can get extra support if needed through our student services department. Our staff aim to make each student’s study path as comfortable as possible in line with the competencies required for the course. This includes students with special needs, top athletes and working students.
Customised support is available and can be requested through one of our talent coaches.
The step to higher education is not self-evident for everyone. This is why Howest puts a lot of effort into supporting you during your studies, so that you can complete your study programme in the best possible way. For us, the student is central and personal contact with the lecturers is of paramount importance.
