General Programme The European Master in Sustainable Energy System Management (SESyM) is an initiative of EUREC (Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres) in collaboration with a consortium of higher education institutions, notably the Hanzehogeschool Groningen (NL), Howest University of Applied Sciences (BE), the University of Zaragoza (SP), Limerick Institute of Technology (IE) and the University of Pisa (IT). EUREC has a major voice in Europe regarding research into sustainable energy and the provision of advice regarding topical energy issues. In the scope of that assignment, the European Master SESyM is offered to train people to play an active role in the field of energy transition. This has indeed become a transdisciplinary matter in which technological, economic, legal, social and environmental challenges are the central issues. In this professional master's programme, students are trained to design, assess and implement an innovative energy business plan. In realistic and authentic company case-studies and projects, they address sustainable energy challenges based on a system approach. The fact that this is a European master's programme implies that the student must have studied in at least 2 European countries in the course of this study track. Why Howest? Drie semesters = anderhalf jaar Het programma bestaat uit 3 semesters (core – specialisation (keuze) – thesis) van telkens 30 studiepunten. De opleiding telt in totaal 90 studiepunten.De master staat open voor studenten met een (professioneel) bachelordiploma in Engineering, Technologie of Wetenschap.Toelating gebeurt op basis van een motivatiedossier (CV, motivatiebrief, referentiebrief werkgever/hoger onderwijsinstelling), …) en bewijs van voldoende Engelse taalbeheersing (IELTS 6,5 of gelijkwaardig).De toelating aanvragen doe je via https://master.eurec.be/ Op jouw maat Het core semester (september tot januari) bevat de basis inzake energie technologie (wind, solar, bioenergie, hydropower) maar ook theoretische cursussen rond de socio-economische implementatie van deze technologiën. Dit semester wordt aangeboden in meerdere Europese landen, en kan gevolgd worden in het Frans, Spaans of Engels. Bekijk hiervoor alle details op de site van Eurec. In het tweede semester (specialisation) kan de student kiezen uit 1 van de 7 specialisaties. Howest biedt in deze context het semester ‘Sustainable Energy & Digital transformation’ aan in Kortrijk.Het thesis-semester kan zowel in een bedrijf als in een onderzoeksinstelling in Europa gevolgd worden.Via dit aanbod kan elke student volgens talent en interesse zelf zijn/haar traject samenstellen. Course unit descriptions for this study programme The application process for the European Master in Renewable Energy AY2026-2027 is open! The aim of the European Master in Renewable Energy is to provide postgraduate students with the skills required for employment in the Sustainable Energy industry. Students will specialise in business case analysis, modelling,project design and implementation in renewable energy. As a result of the foreign contact the course requires, students will have the international outlook essential to the industry needs. By structuring the course in three sections, students are guaranteed to spend time in different EU countries and make contact with a wide range of European institutes and companies involved in the sustainable energy sector.Applications can be submitted via this website.
